Announcing Achievements inIMA and AAA Partnership
January 25, 2023
The Institute of Municipal Assessors (IMA) and the Alberta Assessors’ Association (AAA) celebrate their achievements towards standardization of the Assessment profession in Canada. Edmonton, AB: The AAA and the IMA proudly announce that the IMA's “M.I.M.A.” accreditation and the AAA’s “AMAA” designation are transferrable and transportable. With the intent to unify the standards of practice to support the continued growth of our profession, the IMA and the AAA, representing the two largest professional certifying bodies for professional assessors in Canada, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in 2021. The MOU represents a collective vision which aligns with the goals and core values of our individual organizations and recognizes the work that both the Institute of Municipal Assessors and the Alberta Assessors’ Association have put in to support their members. One of the first tasks we took on was related to labour mobility and ensuring the cross-jurisdictional acknowledgement of credentials. This challenge, aided by the enactment of labour mobility legislation in both provinces, has been successfully met. “Our members are recognized within the industry as subject matter experts with a wealth of knowledge and expertise,” says Greg Martino, IMA President. “This reciprocity acknowledges the expertise of professional assessors within our respective jurisdictions and further acknowledges the willingness of our two associations to collaborate to achieve professional standards of practice that are recognized across Canada.” “While the Alberta Assessor’s Association continues to focus on ensuring public trust in our professional practice in Alberta,” says President Travis Lantz. “Our partnership with the IMA in Ontario broadens that perspective. We acknowledge the alignment of expertise of assessment professionals in both jurisdictions and validate the IMA’s professional standards as equivalent to Alberta’s and vice versa.”
We look forward to our ongoing collaborations to support the continued growth of our profession. Greg Martino, M.I.M.A. Travis Lantz, AMAA IMA President AAA President Ejona Balashi, B.A., CMP, SFC Laurie Hodge, CAE IMA Executive Director AAA Executive Director
